Black Lake

Crime Drama • Psychological Horror | 8 × 60 min | Multi-Season Series
TIFF Series Creators' Lab 2026
When a series of ritualistic murders fractures the quiet façade of Black Lake, Detective Blake Shilling is pulled into an investigation where every discovery exposes another layer of the town’s carefully buried past.
As the killings grow more calculated and the investigation turns increasingly personal, Blake’s pursuit of the truth begins to consume her, straining her family, testing her instincts, and drawing her dangerously close to the very darkness she is trying to understand.
Black Lake is a character-driven crime drama steeped in psychological horror, where the investigation is only the beginning. Beneath the town’s silence lies something far more unsettling: predators hiding in plain sight, histories that refuse to stay buried, and a darkness that may reach closer to Blake than she realizes.

As Rosa is drawn into a new community through her coworker Felix and a folklórico dance group, she begins exploring parts of her Mexican heritage she has only ever known in fragments. But what initially offers connection soon brings another set of expectations about who she should be and how much of the culture she should understand.
