Behind the Scenes of My Chaos... Life?

Balancing a Budding Production Company, Family Chaos, and an Osteopathic Career:

Hello to all the multi-hat wearers out there! Today, I'm pulling back the curtain to share the comedic reality of running an up-and-coming production company, managing a bustling family schedule, and maintaining a career in osteopathy—all at once. If you think it sounds like a sitcom plot, you're absolutely right!

Early Morning Mayhem: Producer Meets Parent

My day kicks off before the sun rises, with a script in one hand and a protein shake in the other or lets be real, a kids chocolate chip cookie. As I prep for a day on production, I'm simultaneously packing lunches, dodging a dog toy flung by my enthusiastic 125lb German Shepherd Jager, and explaining to my Six-year-old why we can't build a parkour gym in our living room. By 7:20 AM, I've negotiated peace treaties in order to get my Six year old and Pre-teen to the door without the world coming to an end. Where we can rush off to hopefully not miss their bus. Cross your fingers!

The Commute: A Juggling Act

Imagine a car where the front seat doubles as a mobile command center. We made the BUS!! Calls to the clinic, breakfast on-the-go, and last-minute schedule changes dominate my drive. Amidst this, I'm video-calling the school to confirm attendance at the afternoon badminton game that I accidentally forgot to sign the AOR for —which, of course, I'll be late to because I tried to fit in one more client at the clinic and my six year old demanded to stay after school to play his cello!

On Set... Production?: Script, Grants, Co-Productions

Stepping into my office AKA my kitchen table, feels like diving into a creative whirlpool—one where I'm juggling multiple aspects of production development. As I finalize a script adjustment to deepen a character's backstory, an urgent email pings about a grant deadline. Swiftly shifting gears, I submit the necessary documentation, only to dive into a pitch deck refinement so that we send it off to the distributor. Amidst this, a scheduled call with our co-production teams in either India or Romania or LA goes live, where we synchronize our visions and schedules across time zones, this is not easy as it sounds. Managing these diverse yet interconnected tasks keeps me on my toes, ensuring every piece aligns perfectly for our upcoming projects, and leaves me sleepless... coffee anyone?

Lunchtime and Afternoon, it's all one: The Osteopathic Quick Fix

My lunch breaks are less about eating and more about consulting. I transition from director to osteopath, offering quick sessions or advice to clients with aches and pains, all while scarfing down of course another chocolate chip cookie and hopefully the muffin I didn't forget, which is of course now squashed a the bottom of my bag.

Evening Routine: Family Time Meets Edits

Evening means family dinner, where tales of mythical school adventures compete with discussions about character development and plot twists. It’s a creative melting pot that often sparks ideas for tomorrow’s scenes. Post-dinner, as my kids tackle homework, taekwondo, and music practice, I tackle post-production reviews and late-night editing.

Winding Down: Dreams of Full-Time Filmmaking

Once the kids are tucked in and dreams of the day’s chaos quiet down, I spend time mapping out the future. Each night is a step closer to phasing out my osteopathic practice and devoting myself fully to the production company. Planning, dreaming, and occasionally, enjoying a quiet moment of peace.

Reflections on the Madness

Managing a production company while juggling family duties and a separate career might sound daunting, but it’s also exhilarating. Each day brings new challenges and triumphs, blending the lines between work, passion, and personal life. It’s a blend of chaos and fulfillment where every hectic moment is a part of the dream I’m building.

Thanks for joining me in this laugh-filled journey. Here’s to all of us chasing our dreams amidst the beautiful chaos of life. Keep your coffee strong, your plans flexible, and your dreams big!
